Toronto RustFest VII - YOTHFest (December 29, 1997)
Your Host - Andy Cutlass Supreme Strote
Pre-Fest Notice
The Fest Call was put out by Andy Cutlass Supreme Strote....
Year of the Horse is playing in Toronto from
December 26 to January 1. After due debate and deliberation we have picked
Monday, December 29 as the best date for a YOTHFest. It gives everyone a
chance to get over Christmas and post-Christmas shopping, and it's before
New Year's Eve madness.
Here are the details:
- YOTH is playing at the Bloor Cinema in Toronto at 9 p.m.
It's at 506 Bloor Street west, 1/2 block east of Bathurst and the Bathurst
subway station. There is both street and lot parking nearby. The Bloor is a
big old classic style cinema. Lots of seats and a balcony too.
-
If you're taking the subway, there are basically two lines: the
Yonge/University U-shaped north/south line, and the Bloor east/west line.
The Bathurst station is 4 stops west of Yonge street on the Bloor line.
-
We plan to meet between 6 and 7 p.m. on the second floor at Pauper's Pub
at 539 Bloor Street West. That's diagonally across the street on a street
corner. You can safely eat and drink there.
-
We won't need advance ticket buying for this, so everyone can take care of
their own at the door.
-
Any Rusties coming from out of town can find reasonably priced
accommodation at the Days Inn next to the famous Maple Leaf Gardens,
the Comfort Inn at Charles and Church, the YMCA, or the AYH.
We hope to see lots of Rusties there. It promises to be a blast. Anyone
needing further directions/information/whatever just email me.
Hope to see you there.

Fest Report
Rusties,
Well the Toronto YOTHFest has come and gone and it was a blast.
In attendance were:
- Zain (who liked YOTH better the second time)
- Kato (proud owner of a new Old Black)
- Mary Maguire (who seems to know where they serve good beer)
- Garry &...
- ...Janice (who had the great idea of sitting in the third row for maximum impact)
- James &...
- ...lovely girlfriend (name?)
- Tipper &...
- ...girlfriend Doriann
- Roy Harpoon Dodger (all the way from Michigan)
- and yours truly.
As advertised, we met at Paupers and proceeded to sample the extensive beer
menu. Soon (time always flies at these get togethers) it was time to cross
the street and find the rustrows. We were pleasantly surprised to see that
theatre mostly full. (If not in Toronto, where then?)
Movie was over much too fast and for those who had seen it before, I think
it held up well for a second showing. Some of us wished Jim had shot more
concerts to get the primo performances of certains tunes (we've seen better
Sedan Deliveries) but hey, you get what you get with Neil and Jim.
After the movie, we found we'd worked up a tremendous thirst (even without
dancing - didn't want to get thrown out of the joint) and soothed our
parched throats back at Paupers. We wondered for a minute where James was,
and then in he waltzed with a VERY NICE T-shirt which I'm sure he'll tell
you all about. (If you have an exceptionally good trade list, you might be
able to swing a deal since James already has one of these shirts...)
Anyway, more Neil talk, plans hatched to hit the R&RHOF in June, and
soon sleepy happy rusties made their way into the night.
Oh and that big snowstorm that was supposed to paralyze T.O.? Never
happened. It was a beautiful night for a YOTHFest.
Happy New Year.
See ya on the road.
