Subject: neil's crew this tour

some comments about lights/sound on this tour for those who don't know/weren't aware. there are (at least) three key pearl jam crew members on tour with neil this time around - sound, lights, and the pj tour manager (who seems to be filling the same role for neil, as he was neil's 'handler' during the seattle 3/5 meet n greet)

they are (as all of pearl jam's crew is) incredibly talented, nice, wonderful people. and their presence at the shows tells me pj aren't on the road for a long while yet (well, at least while neil's on tour... so keep touring, neil! :)

Subject: Tour Rumors

Here's a compilation of the Rumors regarding solo tour dates:

  1. Grand Ole Opry, Nashville. A date of April 15 was mentioned but seems to be discredited since there's another show booked there that night. The box-office there seemed to confirm SOMETHING is planned, and implied the date may be after the MSG shows.

  2. Tower Theater, Philadelphia. A date of April 8th was mentioned. No independent confirmations.

  3. Sears Theatre (at Air Canada Centre), Toronto. No dates mentioned. No independent confirmations.

  4. Fox Theater, Atlanta. No dates mentioned. No independent confirmations.

  5. NEW: Fox Theater, St. Louis. A date of April 2 was mentioned. Not independently confirmed yet.
Here are those for CSNY dates. Note that published reports now imply the tour may not start until August. None of the rumors below has independent corroboration...
  1. San Diego tour "kickoff". July 26 mentioned.

  2. Toronto. Tour promoter says he wants a show there.

  3. Hartford Meadows, CT.

  4. Roanoke, Virginia. Possibly Victory Stadium.

  5. Winnipeg. June was mentioned (but not likely).

  6. The Gorge, Washington (state).
Drop me any other Rumors you have, but PLEASE try to provide some kind of source for corroboration.

Anyone in any of the areas above who "knows somebody" (e.g., at a radio station, a promoter, venue, etc) who might be able to provide input, please seek them out, put on the squeeze, and report back...

Subject: CSNY Tour Promoter Speaks

Some excerpts from an article in the Toronto Sun. Sounds like the tickets will kinda expensive....

Canadian stop for CSNY: Cohl
By JANE STEVENSON -- Toronto Sun

The upcoming CSNY reunion tour is still in the planning stages and doesn't yet have a launch date or location.

But Toronto's Michael Cohl, who is promoting the much-anticipated CSNY trek, expects it to begin in early August, playing in arenas and amphitheatres in North America for around three months. At least for the time being.

"We'll see how everything goes, and if it goes well, you never know," said Cohl on the phone from Miami yesterday, where the Rolling Stones played last night. "Let's face it. It's probably no different than the tour I'm on (with the Stones), where we always start out with just North America, and then if things are going well, it ends up going for a long time."

Cohl, who has also promoted tours by U2 and Pink Floyd, also said that Toronto is a likely stop. "I don't really know," he said. "There's no question we'll stop by in Canada. I mean, I am a Torontonian."

Cohl also expected the tour by the reunited quartet -- the first major one since 1974 -- to be a big deal for concertgoers with ticket prices comparable to those for the Stones, U2 and Pink Floyd.

"There's a few figures being bandied about, but they might have done 31 or 34 shows live ever," said Cohl of CSNY. "That's about as event-y as you can get. I'm sure it's going to be spectacular."

As for what the group is getting paid per show -- Rolling Stone says $500,000 -- Cohl didn't know. "I have no idea how much they're going to make," he said.

Subject: More on Opry

I just called around down there and finally got someone who didn't say "Call Ticketmaster." Neil is apparently doing *one* mid-week show. I was told to call back next week when more will be known (I will). Tickets will probably go on sale next weekend. I gathered that the show will be right after the NYC shows but, again, they wouldn't give me a date, just that it would be one show. Here's hoping that this person knew what they were talking about!

My roomie that works at a local radio station, called me and said "We are giving away tickets to Neil Young at the Grand Ole Opry..." He's trying to find out more about it! (Not 100% sure.)

Perfect venue for this "Evening with Neil" tour.

David Crosby just did an interview with Mike Bullard on the Open Mike show (Canada: Comedy Network, CTV). He confirmed the upcoming CSN&Y tour. And he said that because both Neil and the promoter are Canadian, there's no way they can get out of touring "here". I don't know whether "here" means Toronto, or the whole of Canada.

Subject: Virginia CSN&Y rumor

DISCLAIMER: This is the rankest sort of "friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend" rumor, and should be viewed in that light...

I was told today that a foafoaf who works in the Roanoke Civic Center office said to the foaf who said to the friend that CSN&Y is "pencilled in for Roanoke in the late summer, possibly outdoors."

"Outdoors" would most likely be Victory Stadium, an old football stadium in Roanoke, where the Dave Matthews Band played a reasonably successful show last September (I think it was.) Not a state-of-the-art facility by a long shot, but in a pleasant location and sorta funky. Also, it is down by the river.

So, will the tour hit this backwater burg in the hills? If so, it'll be Neil's first visit here since the Time Fades Away tour.

Just added! A third show at the Rosemont Theater on April 28th. Tickets go on sale March 5th.

WXRT radio in chicago aired this as a Special XRT Show at about 6:30 (Chicago time). I'm real excited since I couldn't get tickets for Neil's other shows at the Rosemont. I've seen Neil off and on since 1979, and I feel I need to see him one more time before he decides he's too old to tour.
