Special thanks goes out to John Einarson for all his help with the unreleased
songs of the Squires and Buffalo Springfield eras. John has written several
excellent books - one about Neil's early years with the Squires in Canada, and
another about the Buffalo Springfield. (John has also books written books about
other Canadian rock groups such as the Guess Who and Steppenwolf -- his latest
book is entitled Desperados: The Origins of Country Rock and the Roots of
New Country.) You can order John's books directly via e-mail
(jeinarso@MINET.gov.MB.CA)
or via his web page.

The Individual Songs
(See down below for the
unreleased Albums.)
*After Berlin - see Berlin.
- Amber Jean - Performed during the 1984 tour with the International
Harvesters, an outtake from the second Old Ways.
- Ashes On The Floor - unreleased song from the Buffalo Springfield era;
Neil worked on the song with Jack Nitzsche. It's mentioned in John
Einarson's book about the Buffalo Springfield.
- Aurora - Instrumental single by Neil's first band The Squires
circa 1965.
- Bad Fog Of Loneliness - Performed in 1970 as a solo piece and later
recorded for Tonight's The Night. Also performed once in 1989
with the Restless.
- Bad News - a.k.a. Bad News Has Come To Town. 1987/1988 tours
with The Bluenotes. If you've seen the video for the song This Note's For
You, this is the song that is played at the beginning.
- Banana Mashed - Squires song from 1963; mentioned in John Einarson's
book about the Buffalo Springfield. A recorded version of the song probably
does not exist.
- Beautiful Bluebird - an International Harvesters track from 1985,
an outtake from the second Old Ways.
- Beggars Day - a Nils Lofgren song from the first Crazy Horse album
that was performed on the 1982 tour with the Transband.
- Berlin - a.k.a. After Berlin. Only played
once, on the last night of the 1982 Transband tour. This is more of a non-album
song than an unreleased one, as it's on the VERY hard to find (out of print?)
Live in Berlin video.
*Better Than Silver And Gold - see Silver
And Gold.
- Big Pearl - written in 1982, probably for the unreleased Island
In The Sun album
- Big Waves - recorded for After The Gold Rush, but not
included. Some think it might have been a early version of Powderfinger,
but who knows?

the same titles as famous songs by other artists. (The album was never released.)
Recorded again for Ragged Glory.

and the 1989 tour with The Restless, it was recorded also for the shelved

Pay. From the 1978 tour with Crazy Horse.
- Buffalo Springfield Again - solo number performed on the 1997 HORDE

you what it's about.
*Citizen Kane Jr. Blues - see Pushed It
Over The End.
- Cleopatra - Squires original written by Neil.
- Comanche - Squires song from 1963; mentioned in John Einarson's book

- Daddy Went Walking - solo acoustic number on the 1999 solo acoustic tour.

1970 album Deja Vu as part of the Country Girl medley.
*Dream Machine - see Live
To Ride.
- Enchanted Sea - Squires song from 1963; mentioned in John
Einarson's book about the Buffalo Springfield. A recorded version of
the song probably does not exist.
- Evening Coconut - performed on the Stills/Young tour just before Neil
told Stephen to "Eat a peach."
- Everybody's Alone - First performed 1970 as a solo piece; recorded for
After The Gold Rush, but excluded from it. Played for the first time
in several years on 7/15/1997 at the Wolf Mountain (Utah) stop on the HORDE tour (thanks to
Leo Echavarria for the tip)
- Everything Is Broken - Bob Dylan song performed by Neil at the 1989
Bridge Benefit show.
- Extra, Extra - the real name of what is commonly
called When It Falls, It Falls All Over You, the 1965 Elektra

was played on the 1984/85 International Harvester tours.
- Fool For Your Love - 1988 Bluenotes tour.
- Forever Young - the Bob Dylan song performed twice during 1991 Bridge
Benefit show; once with Nicolette Larson on vocals and Neil on the pipe organ
and again with the Stray Gators. Also performed with the Grateful Dead at the
Bill Graham tribute show.
*Friend Of Mine - see Live
To Ride.
- The Ghost - Squires song from 1963; mentioned in John Einarson's
book about the Buffalo Springfield. A recorded version of the song probably
does not exist.
- Give Me Strength - 1976 tours, Australia 1985 and 1997 HORDE tour; solo
acoustic number.

Is Perfect.
- Goodbye Dick - a short little ditty about the resignation

- Good To See You Again - performed at the 1997 Bridge shows and at
every show on the 1999 solo acoustic tour.
- Greensleeves - 1974 Bottom Line show, also played at the 1991 Bridge
show. Different lyrics than the traditional song. Neil (probably) wrote the new
verses; the chorus is the same as the original.
- Green Velvet - Squires song from 1963; mentioned in John Einarson's
book about the Buffalo Springfield. A recorded version of the song probably
does not exist.
- Grey Riders - 1985 tour with the International Harvesters, it was
supposed to be released on the aborted Farm-Aid benefit EP.

Laughing Lady during the 1976 shows, much in the same manner that part
of You And Me was included as an intro to I Am A Child in 1971.
- Hawaiian Sunrise - 1974 CSN&Y tour. Also recorded for
Homegrown.
- Hello Lonely Woman - a.k.a. Till I Pass This
Way Again. Written 1964; performed during the 1987/1988 Bluenotes tours.

Springfield Again.
- Hillbilly Band - 1984 International Harvester shows. Also known
as The Old Hillbilly Band.
- Hitchhiker - 1992 solo shows. The song is based on Like An Inca
from Trans with similar music, but (mostly) different lyrics. Some
say that this was the "first" version of Like An Inca, and developed into
the released form over time. Another interpretation is that the song quotes the
refrain of Like An Inca once as a joke, because the songs sound so
similar...who knows?
- Homefires - a.k.a. Keep The Homefires
Burning. Performed during the 1974 CSN&Y tour, recorded for the
Homegrown album, performed a few times during the 1992
solo tour, and even played on the 1997 HORDE tour.

is an early version of Zuma's Don't Cry No Tears.

last minute. The song is listed and the lyrics appear on many copies of the
album. Played on the 1982 Trans tour.

over from the Ragged Glory sessions. Also recorded in a band
version with the International Harvesters for the Farm Aid EP
that was cancelled by Geffen, and also as a solo number with electric overdubs
in 1986.
- Island In The Sun - Title track for the first album that Neil
recorded for Geffen, but the album was rejected. The non-electronic songs
from Trans were on the rejected album.
- It Might Have Been - Old English folksong. 1970 Crazy Horse tour
and 1984 International Harvesters tour. Performed live as a duet with Willie
Nelson once in 1984.
- Johnny - studio recording from the Trans sessions that
was played over the PA at some Shocking Pinks shows.

- Kansas - acoustic number from the 1999 solo acoustic tour.

And Gold. Performed with the International Harvesters in 1984, at some
1992 solo shows, and at the 1997 Bridge shows. Recorded for Harvest
Moon with Crosby & Nash on harmony vocals, the original Old
Ways album, and it also might have been recorded for Island
In The Sun.
- Sixty To Zero - Uncut version of Crime In The City played
during the 1988 Bluenotes tour. The arrangement was similar to the
Freedom version during early shows and ran about 17 minutes.
Later shows featured an arrangement similar to the Weld version
