    Accessing The Rust List

Here are details about Rust subscriptions and accessing Rust discussions. Before doing anything here, it's a good idea to check out the Introduction to Rust. There's important information there.

Also, if you have any problems with the instructions below, be sure to check the Rust Status news column to see if there's currently a problem with the list being worked on.

    Types of Rust Access

There are four ways to get your Rust discussion:

    1. Have each Rust post sent to you via email notes. This is called "messages" mode.

    2. Have periodic batches of posts combined into one larger note and sent to you via email notes. This is called "digest" mode.

    3. Browse the individual posts on the web.

    4. Browse the digest archive.

The first two are about the same, other than the size and frequency of the mail you receive. The third and fourth involve two different web sites and browsing methods. Details below...

How do I sign on, or off?

Rust is now distributed by the YahooGroups service. Commands for messages mode and/or digest mode are sent to email addresses on that service.

YahooGroups only allows one subscription from any email address. That subscription can be switched between messages mode and digest mode at will. (If you wish to subscribe to both, you must have two different email addresses of your own to subscribe from, one for each.) You can also switch to "nomail" mode as described below.

YahooGroups subscription commands are sent as a blank note, using different email addresses for different commands. The "Subject:" field of the note is ignored. The body of the note is ignored. Send the blank note to one of these addresses, for the appropriate command...

    • Initial subscription to Rust:
Initially a subscription is for all Rust messages. Send the blank note to:
           rust-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
You will get a response note from YahooGroups that you must reply to, to activate your subscription. After you reply to it, a confirmation will be sent to you and your subscription is active.

    • Requesting a switch from one mode to the other:
To switch to digest mode (from messages mode or nomail mode) send the blank note to:
           rust-digest@yahoogroups.com
To switch to messages mode (from digest mode or nomail mode) send the blank note to:
           rust-normal@yahoogroups.com

    • Pausing your Rust mail (nomail mode):
To stop the Rust mail, while leaving your subscription in place (so that you will still be able to post and use YahooGroups functions), send the blank note to:
           rust-nomail@yahoogroups.com
To resume receiving Rust mail after having done this, use one of the two switch commands above ("rust-normal" or "rust-digest").

    • Unsubscribing from Rust:
No matter which mode you use, unsub by sending a blank note to:
           rust-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com

    Contributing to the Discussion

Send all Rust posts to rust@rustlist.org. Some notes from YahooGroups will tell you to use a different address for posting, but please don't. Use rust@rustlist.org.
PLEASE: Make sure that you send all posts PLAIN TEXT. Default behavior on most mail programs is to send posts in HTML format. You should change that before sending posts to Rust. There's help with doing so, here.

    Following the Discussion

If you have subscribed to Rust messages or digests as described above, you'll find your Rust discussion in your email mailbox...

You can also browse the Rust messages directly off the web on the YahooGroups service at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rust.

You can also browse the Rust digests here on HyperRust in the Digest Archive.
