early report by Joe Crane

What a great night!
Too late to write much now -- here are a few impressions...
The show rocked, and the crowd was very into it.
Lots of interplay between Stills and Young.
Everybody seemed to be having a great time.
Neil made his customary train remark before Marrakesh Express.
Stills was especially playful.
At one point he threw rose petals over the heads of CNY.
Sound was very good from our excellent seats on the floor.
They all stayed around through the seventh inning stretch.
Neil sang along with Harry Carey at one point.
While Crosby was blowing sage smoke over the crowd,
he put the bale to his lips and acted like he was toking.
Disappointed at no Down By The River.
Unusual that they came back for a second encore after credits rolled.
It was a wonderful night of music, worth every penny, without a doubt.
The guys were really on.

I am not going to take this opportunity to complain about the chiseled-in-stone set lists...

I'm finally back home and recovered from a trip to Indianapolis for Friday's concert. What an incredible show!

When the tour was announced last year I wasn't even sure I wanted to go. Especially when I saw the ticket prices, and found out I had to buy tickets more than four months before the date of the concert. But I bought them anyway. Then after reading the reviews from the earlier shows I was afraid I would be expecting too much. No reason to worry about that. All I can do is echo everyone else's comments: It was the best concert I've ever seen. Go if you can.

To me the best thing was seeing the four of them having so much fun. It was obvious that they are trying to show themselves and their fans that they can be as good as they could have been 25 years ago. I had a feeling that this tour is something they needed to do for themselves, to make up for all the things that happened between them in the past. And I for one am glad they did. We are the winners, too, for being able to see these shows.

One question I have for anyone who was at Indy, who also saw previous shows: Was the sound in the arena as bad as the guy who wrote the review in the newspaper said it was? Was the sound at other venues better? As I was reading the review I found myself wondering if this guy was at the same concert as me. He said the Backstreet Boys (gag) sounded better than CSNY. The only positive comments he had were about the second set. Sure didn't sound like the show I saw!
