Note from RE*AC*TOR (2004)...
As of early this year, HyperRust has been turned over to a crew provisionally
known as the HyperRusties. They're busily working on a facelift for
the site, and attempting to catch up on the stuff I've neglected recently.
Never did get around to adding my own comments below, but I will say good-bye
along with this now: It's been an honor to help the Neil Young fan community find the
information they need for all these years...
Note from RE*AC*TOR (1996)...
The comments below are from Kimmo Saaskilahti,
the creator of the pages that were the seed for HyperRust Never Sleeps
back in 1994. Let me pass some heavy duty kudos to Kimmo for his
year and a half of ground work on that previous incarnation of HyperRust!
One of these days I'll get around to adding some comments of my own here...
The original "Note from Kimmo"
I started working on these Web pages about May 1994. Initially they were
not a lot more than an HTML version of the rust@death (Rust List) FAQ
and the discography I had put together with Stephen House. However,
soon the pages began to grow, mainly thanks to the folks on the
Rust List, who kept on sending me more and more information. And
there seems to be no end...
I would like to thank especially:
- Margaret Lang for compiling the FAQ, and all the
people who contributed to it
- Stephen House for co-editing the discography (actually he
did most of the work)
- FiL Wisneski for The Musical Chronology and many other
informative files
- Olof Bjorner for the incredible gig & tour lists and the
lyrics archives
- Jason Schwartz for various pieces of info and creating new
WWW pages - especially the Photo Archives
- 'Thrasher' for his input and continuous
support
- Steve McConnell for keeping me posted with the Neil
coverage on Addicted To Noise
- Dan Farmer, the Rust Listmeister without whom none of this
would have been possible
- Sami Köykkä, the webmaster@uta.fi, for
keeping the wheels at uta.fi rolling
- All you who visit the site for feedback and endless support
I am sure I have forgotten many who have helped on the way, apologies
for that. Anyway, I couldn't have done it without you!
HyperRust Visitor Counter Milestones
The original count for the HyperRust front-page visitor counter began
on August 1995. With a minor adjustment to cover the estimated visits
prior to that, the total front-page visitor count from the start
of HyperRust in 1994 up through the end of 1997 was 1/2 million visitors.
Over 1998 and 1999 the counter, starting at that 500,000 point, increased
by almost exactly a million, to finish out the 1990s at a slightly rounded
off count of 1,500,000.
The counter's zero has been shifted to the start of the year 2000, with
the previous 1.5 million visits from the 90s "archived" here. This lets
the counter better illustrate the current rate of visitors in the "2000s".
With all this in mind, here are past visitor count milestones (some
dates are approximate):
Adjusted Count
for years 1994-1997 :
500,000
|
|
Adjusted Count
for years 1998-1999 :
1,000,000
|
|
Adjusted 0 : Jan.1, 2000
0.2 million : Mar 2000
0.4 million : Jun 2000
0.6 million : Aug 2000
0.8 million : Oct 2000
1.0 million : Dec 2000
1.5 million : Jun 2001
|
|
2.0 million : Nov 2001
2.5 million : Apr 2002
3.0 million : Sep 2002
3.5 million : Mar 2003
4.0 million : Jun 2003
4.5 million : Sep 2003
5.0 million : Apr 2004
|
Adjusted total for the 90s : 1.5 million
|
|
Running grand total as of April 2004: 6.5 million
|
One other thing to remember: this only counts visits to the FRONT PAGE
of HyperRust. Many people who visit such places as SAMPLE
and HOLD or Tour 2003 or
It's All One Song have
bookmarks set directly into those sections, and do not enter via the HyperRust
front page. Thus the absolute visitor count to the whole HyperRust website is
MUCH higher than this counter total shows. But it's still a good
metric for observation...
