Press Release: Neil's Finger Injury(Also see: The Rustie Reaction.)
BURBANK, Calif., May 29 -- A five-week string of
European tour dates which were to bring Neil Young
and Crazy Horse to audiences in sixteen European
countries has been postponed due to a recent
household accident. The tour was set to start
Monday, June 9, at the ice skating rink in Luxembourg.
Dates included concerts in Spain, Portugal,
Germany, Norway, Finland, The Netherlands, Belgium,
Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland and France.
Young accidentally cut the tip of his left index
finger while slicing a ham sandwich at his Northern
California home a few days ago. While the wound is
healing nicely, Young's doctors insist that he not
play guitar for several weeks, so as to not aggravate
the problem and slow down the process of
recovery.
Young will be heading this summer's North American
H.O.R.D.E. tour which kicks off mid-July. His
doctors have concluded that he will be able to fully
participate in that tour if he adheres
to their no fretting/strumming/picking proviso in the interim.
It is hoped the European dates can be re-set for the fall,
following the conclusion of the H.O.R.D.E. tour.
Reached at his now guitar-free home environment today, Young
commented, "I'd have eaten the thing in one piece if I'd known
that cutting it in half would jeopardize the tour. It's macaroni
and cheese from now on."
Last year's Neil Young and Crazy Horse Tour has been
documented on Year of the Horse, a two-CD set from Reprise to
be released on June 17. Filmmaker Jim Jarmusch directed a
documentary film on the same subject, with the same title,
which recently premiered at the San Francisco International
Film Festival. It is expected to be theatrically released
this coming fall.
