24 males, 18 females.

Oldest doggie: "Dude" a "Mongrel" pound dog at 16.5 years! Born on July 4th! Having a hard time hearing and seeing but still chooglin'!

Youngest doggie: a three week old Great Dane bitch that's about to make Mr. Chuck's life mighty interesting...

Average age: ~4.5 years

Busyhands Award for most doggies: Barb Hardaway, with that herd of Chess Bay Retriever mixeds, that's *five* of 'em!

Yet another talent from the multitalented: RE*AC*TOR delivered Foxfire's puppies!

Other notables:

  • Damara, a Black Labrador at 12 years and 10 months, is nominated by her owner as the "hungriest dog" that exists
  • Wilbur, a Boston Terrier from the pound, looks like a "gargoyle" and is suspected of killing his former owners :)
  • Sarge, a Yellow Lab mixed, did time as a research dog in a fur grafting program
  • Rocky, a Golden Retriever, goes to lectures with his professor owner
  • Kaisa, a Gordon Setter, really takes to heart the "wild woman archetype"
  • Jason Appleby's hamster, of whom Jason says "I'd put my hamster up against a dog any day."
Gone, but definitely not forgotten department:
  • Mojo, a Caju swamphound, born 1969, R.I.P. since 1982
  • Young, a Siberian Husky - Coyote mixed.
Lastly, I leave you with a quote from our beloved Locator, who sums it up pretty well: "They're...well...dogs!"

Woof woof!

Epilog to the Report, from Barb Hardaway (barbh@illustra.com)

Wesman scores again!! I was very conservative in my reply just giving the dog info requested because I could fill many cyberpages on dogs.

My beloved Lupus was not included but I've decided to honor him as he should be honored in this reply to Wesman's wonderful work.

I raised a Timberwolf/Gray wolf cross (no dog genes) and he resided in my home for 13 years before he was taken out by a snake.....hiiissssss

Lupus acted as uncle to 16 kittens, 1 Muscovie duck, 10 parakeets, 2 kids. He was an adjunct lecturer at the Univ of Calif Davis in the Dept of Applied Behavioral Sciences. The Dean gave him special dispensation so he could come on campus without the dog patrol nabbing him. I can honestly say it was hard to have a dog after raising a wolf. They are definitely different to live with. Lupe was the gentlest soul I have ever encountered in my life. I sometimes go thru major Lupe withdrawals especially when I am doing a beach thing or wandering thru the woods. His zest for life was so real and all of us had such fun being raised by him. He was the best kid fight breaker upper I have ever seen....didn't like those girls fighting. He would gently take an arm and lead one of them away and then place himself between them so they couldn't touch each other. Quite funny to watch.....

Anyway, enough blithering....I guess I'm having one of those Lupus withdrawal things...sigh

Rusties are the best!!

Barb
