Subject: Damage Control

Here's the latest damage control on the rumor scene.......

  1. EUROPEAN DATES: Nothing has been confirmed. If there are any dates in Europe (and they'd like there to be) they will be worked around the H.O.R.D.E. dates and as of now, those dates have not been scheduled

  2. ALBUM WITH PERCY SLEDGE: Where do these things get started?????

  3. NEW MOVIE SOUNDTRACKS: Again, there are no plans for either a soundtrack/movie about the Dead or autistic children as had been rumored.

  4. HORDE DATES: Being negotiated. Soon as I have them, so do you.

  5. ARCHIVES RELEASE DATE: Rumor says October 7th of THIS YEAR!!!! I was told that, although it's still on for this year, October might be a tad optimistic.........
And if there is an international RustFest Jill would like to go - she says it sounds cool.

Subject: Daytona, HORDE, HOF, etc.

........and I wish I had some exciting news to report. Unfortunately, all I can do at this time is to reconfirm some non-info on some rumors which are currently running around.

  1. Neil playing at a biker festival in Daytona, FL in March?
    This is just not true. If you're planning on coming to Florida in March for spring break, you'll have to make do with your tapes and your beer. There will be no Neil mixed in with those Harleys. (And I was gonna have my car fixed - it's only a 200 mile drive...)

  2. H.O.R.D.E.?
    By now everybody knows anyway that Neil is the headliner. Nothing new there. I'm trying to find out who the other acts are, but at this point Lookout has no further information. Negotiations are underway with several folks -- and when they hear, I'll hear, and you'll know.

  3. CSNY/Buffalo Springfield Hall of Fame Reunion shows?
    According to Jill, this could happen "the night before", IF the guys are in the mood. It is not planned. And Neil has given no indication of having anything planned. From all accounts, if this occurs it will be strictly spontaneous. But then again, just the fact that they mentioned "the night before" without me having even brought it up....

  4. New Stills Young Album?
    3 words: Eat a Peach

  5. CD Release Schedule?
    Still on track for a Live Album summer release, a fall release on the first volume of the Archives, and a Bridge CD compilation. She didn't mention the Missing 6.
Will keep trying to find out about the HORDE guestlist and any more on the CD's, and keep my ear to the ground on the reunions.

OK gang, looks like all those H.O.R.D.E. rumors are true. Final negotiations are underway. Will bring you info as I can get it. But I sure will miss those Rustrows this year.....

Eurogigs: Preliminary negotiations are underway but nothing is solid. As of this point, treat it as wishful thinking which is trying to become a reality.

March In Daytona: Rumor stage. Approaches have been made, but to even say at this point that it's in the planning stages, is much too much. It's been mentioned but that's it right now. But, since this one is only 200 miles away from my house, you KNOW I'll be all over it!!!!   :-}

1996 Tour Merchandise: Yes, it is available still and I will have an address and a person to contact tomorrow night.

Subject: Homeless, Inaugural, Lionel Cafe

Got a few questions answered tonite from Jill.

  1. The Invisible Homeless CD & Book Project: couldn't help on this one. This is the first she's heard of it. Cinnamon Girl, can your sources at Reprise confirm or deny?

  2. The Inaugural Ball Rumor: Good news gang! We don't have to spend 6 hours watching CNN! It's a rumor - nothing more, nothing less. As of 6:40 pm eastern time today Neil is MOST DEFINITELY NOT, repeat NOT playing any Presidential balls. Matter of fact she told me they've been hearing this one go round for about a week now and the more it spreads the more gala's Neil's appearing at. He'd have to have Santa's sleigh to pull this one off.

  3. Lionel Cafe's: Still a long ways from completion. It's in the talking/planning/feasibility stages. Neil is still investigating the restaurant business before he makes his next move. But it should go down (though no time soon) and will be a chain of hamburger places themed around the trains. Plans are right now for the US only.
That's it so far - keep em comin'.....

Subject: Bridge Comp. CD voting

A few weeks ago I mentioned that after discussing the upcoming Bridge Compilation CD(s) with Lookout, Jill told me that, although legal hassels and stuff would take precedence, they would welcome fan input into who should be on the compilation.

If you would all vote for 5 who you'd like to see featured, I'll compile the list at the end of this month and forward it on to Lookout. Please remember though - no votes for Pearl Jam. Sony has already said they won't be on there, so it's a moot point.

As an added aside, how about voting for which Neil year you'd like to see on there as well.

Anyway, here's the list.

BTW, anybody know why there was no show in 87?

Subject: Lookout Comments on Bridge Compilation CD

One of our Rusties came up with a very good suggestion regarding the upcoming Bridge Benefit Compilation CD: ask for fan input.

I passed this idea on to Jill tonite. Her reply is that there would definitely be interest as to what we all would want to hear on the cd's. According to what she told me, a lot of what goes into determining who does get on the album is the usual legal crap between record companies - who can get the necessary permission from their label and such. I was told that this virtually all but eliminates any chance of Pearl Jam appearing.

The 2nd determining factor is where we can have some input. Supposedly, all the acts that have appeared over the past 10 shows have been put into 3 tiers based on who knows (marketability, popularity,??????). No, I didn't ask who was where but we both agreed that The Pretenders should be on the CD's.

Now all things being equal, here's where Rust would come in. If it's a toss up between 2 acts on the same tier, what the fans wanted to hear would be counted towards determining what went on the CD. I have no idea as to the complete list of artists who have appeared over the years. If somebody does know, please let me (and everyone else) know.

(HyperRust Editor's Note: Available right here on HyperRust.)
Look the list over, tell me what you think and I will keep a record. I'll repost after the holiday to give folks who've unsubbed a chance to vote as well. And then around mid-January I'll pass this info on to Lookout so they can act on it or ignore it. :-}

Now if we can get Neil to do this with the Archives....   :-}

Subject: Bridge Compilation CD - a bit more

Spoke to Lookout tonite. No tour news for anything yet, but I did get a bit more about the Bridge CD scheduled for next year. Right now it's scheduled to be a double CD (could grow). It will cover acts that have appeared over all 10 shows, but no idea yet who.

Subject: Latest from Lookout

Did some rumor checking and stuff this week about possible 97 gigs. Here's what I found out - not much.

The 1997 Australian dates are still just rumors. Nothing concrete at this stage of the game.

The rumor about a date at the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State is unfounded.

It's too early to confirm anything about a 1997 tour to support the albums due for release. If there is a tour, Jill isn't sure at all at this point if it will be world-wide or not.

But, on a bright note, nobody flinched when I mentioned Cinnamon Girl's info about the upcoming albums. I'd take that as a "yes" as well I suppose.

Subject: Rust Rows for Hartford & Buffalo

Well, my son's football team lost 18 - 13 but I understand from their team that this was the best game they've had all season. They're 7-0 and we drop to 5-2 but.........

Anyway, the important stuff. Just to reiterate, there are Rustrows for both Hartford and Buffalo. Tony Wagahoff, who is handling Buffalo, has his promoter info and should have the details in hand for Rust on Monday. As Chris Lanser said about Hartford, the lady who is our contact at that promoter is out of town until Wednesday. But there is a row.

If anybody hears of more cities being added (and I will ask Monday anyway) please let me know asap so I can get the rows started on. I'll do my best to stay in town at critical times too! :-}

Well I have a call in to Jill. Unfortunately, as of around 7:00 tonite I am leaving to go out of town until tomorrow night and will have no net access. Jill's aware of that and I've left word pleading for info on contacts by 5:00 today. But who knows......

If there's anybody out there who would be willing to run these rows please notify me ASAP. If I do get the info before I leave tonite I'll post you immediately with it. If I don't I'll let Rust know and will continue to work on it anyway - if I can get better seats on Monday then what some of you buy this weekend maybe this will still happen....

Subject: The Non-Happening Rust Row for Bridge?

It ain't over til it's over, but right now it's not lookin' all that great. Seems that Jill is having trouble getting tickets from the promoter due to the large demand. I know this has turned into a Bay Area Social Event so apparently the group sales are hard to come by.

So, a large row is definitely out. I'm still trying to get something for us and Jill is working hard on that for us as well. However, it will probably only be around 20 tickets like last year.

Best thing to do at this point is to go ahead and purchase your own tickets on Sunday when they go on sale. I will still keep trying and will notify everyone when I'm successful (gotta think positively!).

Sorry this one couldn't be pulled off on time - but don't give up yet!

For all the Rustrow coordinators. Just got off the phone with Sonya. The fax has arrived and everyone is all set. We have a block of up to 50 tickets in each city.

Turns out that she caught Neil at Molson for the first time ever and is now a total Neil junkie - so she's MORE than happy to help us! And she will be at the Hamilton show herself as well.

Just wanted to let you all know in advance that my server has informed me that this coming Wednesday it will be down periodically throughout the day for maintenance and upgrading. So if anything breaks on the Bridge shows or if there are crises' with the Canadian Rustrows, I'll do my best to make sure that the info reaches Rust via somebody else that day....

Have 2 messages into Lookout today. Will try again in 15 minutes before I leave for the evening.

If I can't get the info in time I will still go ahead and get the rows. If we get better seats that way I'm sure folks can work something out with any tickets they buy this weekend.

And we still need folks to handle Edmonton, Vancouver, Ottawa and Halifax.

I'm gonna check with Jill about the tickets going on sale rumor soon as I send this letter off and kill my daughter for whining.....

Even if this is false info, it's time to start preparing. I have a Rustie who is handling the row for Winnipeg. I need folks who can handle coordinating rows for the rest of the tour. Duties and responsibilities include:

Benefits include long hours and no pay.   :-}   If interested, get back to me ASAP.

Subject: Canada, Bridge, etc.

Spoke to Jill today. Had to pay a very steep price for this (my grandmother's chocolate chip cookie recipe) but I did get some info.

  1. BRIDGE SHOW: Tickets ARE NOT going on sale this weekend. So no need to panic. And we will have rows for both shows. As of now we'll probably need between 45 to 50 tickets each night, but Jill's told me we got em. Will post more info as I get it.

  2. CANADIAN SHOWS: No dates yet - still being confirmed/firmed. But, again, we've been promised that there will be as many Rustrows as we need. I told her that some cities would probably only have 2 or 3 Rusties needing tickets and we'll try to work something out for those shows as well. (baby rustrows?)

  3. ETC: Jill told me the LA Times printed a "gushing" article about the Forum show. I haven't checked my Rustmail yet, so I know it's probably already been posted but just in case it hasn't would somebody be so kind as to put it up when you have time? I'd love to read it. Also was told that if Pat Benetar does a show near any of you, in Jill's personal opinion, do yourself a favor and go.
One more thing. To our Jewish Rusties: Good Yom Tov. A healthy and happy New Year.......
