This just in, from the satchel online partnership:
> Dear FH (Caryn), > > The Partnership has just reported that Brad has > decided to pull out of the Bridge School Benefit > altogether because the dates were moved up a week. > I am so sorry about the conflicting reports, but I > just got this message this morning (or more aptly at > 2 am last night, but I had already gone to sleep). This is STILL confusing, but at least we know that Bridge is still the same weekend we think/hope it is.

P a u l M c C a r t n e yI also have heard rumors of Alanis Morrisette at the Bridge.
Spoke with the Spanish promoter today and he told me that though NEIL was supposed to play a European Tour in October, including a show in Madrid on October 6, the whole tour has been called Off. In case Neil might play in the near future here's the promoter's fax number: INTL.34.3.4591756 (GAY AND CO. - CONCERT PROMOTERS)

Subject: PHISH under the BRIDGE
From the Digital Phish mailing list:
One of my very best friends from college wound up getting hired by Dry Goods -- works in the home office, blah blah...I asked her for the scoop on the Bridge Benefit (and I'm here salivating in San Fran) and she got back to me today, basically saying that
(a) they're not sure about the acoustic aspect
(b)they not sure about the short sets
(c) they don't want to open up the benefit-door too muchI wouldn't put this kind of buzzkill news up if I wasn't certain I had it from a very reliable source. Phish declined the offer.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. And frankly, I'm baffled...I thought for sure the Cinn. Girl @ Shoreline was the early indicator.
A few reliable sources have let me know that it appears that PHISH will be performing at this year's Bridge Benefit.
YEAH!

Subject: New Rumor: Spain!
This was published yesterday in Mondo Sonoro (a publication similar to BAM). From what I read, the city of Madrid is financially helping bring some big acts like U2 (who will be playing there next Tuesday) and Neil Young!
In other newspapers I saw the same ad with "NEIL YOUNG at PALACIO DE LA COMUNIDAD DE MADRID on OCTOBER 6, 1997". That's a big arena -- 18,000 capacity.
I will be in MADRID tuesday. Let me check there and will let you know for sure -- though I am pretty sure this is OFFICIAL.
cheers

Unfortunately, it's not gonna be this time that NY will be coming to Brazil. I just got this (negative) confirmation from the Brazilian organizers of the festival. Thanx for the attention. We'll keep in touch.

Subject: Neil in Brazil info
Here's an English-language version of the page who's URL was posted previously:
I haven't yet gotten any confirmation from the consulate/organizers, but I'll try to do so still today.
At the following URL, you can access most of the scheduled program for the festival: http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/francais/culture/ATTA-02F.HTM In the section "Manifestations canadiennes au Brésil" you'll see "Neil Young at Serraria Souza Pinto on 12/09/97 and at Praca do Papa on 14/09/97".
As soon as I hear anything from the organizers, I'll get in touch.

Subject: Neil in Brazil after all?
It looks like that "Belo Horizonte" date in Brazil for September that's been rumored since the beginning of the year may have some validity to it. Here's an edited version of a note I received:
David,. . . RE*AC*TOR
Think I'm luckier than I had supposed. Happens that I work in <<omitted>> and we are working on an technical cooperation agreement. The Canadian Gov't and private Canadian and Brazilian entities are sponsoring an event in Belo Horizonte, from September 3-14 called "Canada nas Gerais" ("Canada in Minas Gerais", which is the name of the state that has Belo Horizonte, aka "Nice Horizon", as capital).Well, <<omitted>> gave our name to the Canadian Consulate in Rio de Janeiro, who sent us the whole program. It includes business, dance, architecture, jazz...and...rock! Guess who? That's right: Neil himself. Or at least, he is scheduled to play September 12 in BH, and following a Brazilian tour.
I didn't have time to get the confirmation from the Consulate but I do hope everything turns out fine with Neil Young (probably without CH, what a pity) playing at the Metropolitan in Rio.
So, have a nice weekend!
This morning's Dallas Morning News reports that Beck has been added to the Farm Aid lineup. That means the headliners are now Willie, Neil, ABB, John Fogerty, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews Band, and Beck.

Subject: Musings/rumors for the Fall
I am sorry for the Europeans should Neil not make it there this Fall.
I have a friend who does security at Madison Square Garden. He said they are trying real hard to book Neil for 3 or 4 nights in the Theater at MSG (formerly The Paramount). He thought mid October or early November. I didn't put much stock in it because I assumed he was going to Europe. However, it looks like that may not be happening.
This is ONLY a rumor; take it as such. This same guy did, however, know months in advance of his tour and show at MSG last summer. I mean, he knew the appox. dates of the Garden shows before the stealth shows even went down.
That's all I know. Take it with a grain of salt. If I hear anything else, I'll let you know.

Subject: Va Beach Cancellation
I heard on the radio this morning that the reason given for canceling the Virginia Beach HORDE show was because they are playing in New York the night before and they won't be able to come down and set up in time. Of course this wasn't a problem when they originally signed to do the concert here because the southeastern corner of Virginia hadn't started drifting south then. I'm sure most of you are aware that we're a lot farther away from New York now.
Idiots.

Subject: Va Beach show off
I work at the local paper in Virginia Beach-Norfolk (The Virginian-Pilot), and we had a cover for the weekend entertainment guide all set today: A poster-sized picture of Neil. Well, guess what. At the last minute, we got word from Cellar Door that they'd canceled HORDE for Virginia Beach. No reason was given. Our music writer (who'd gotten an invitation to join the Rusties, due to his interest in Neil) guessed that ticket sales hadn't gone well, but that's only speculation.
%#@#$*^!!! What a disappointment.
I had Row G, Orchestra tickets!!!
We still have the Nissan Pavilion show, I hope, in this neck of the woods. But my tickets for that one aren't nearly as good. And I was really looking forward to doing both shows.
